Joel joined Theatreplan in 2018 as a Consultant, coming from a background in broadcasting studios and systems installations. He began his career as a Transmission Controller for Christian Channel Europe, going on to work at Total Audio Solutions where he was a Systems Manager, delivering installations for TV studios. Joel subsequently started his own company, Bigin.tv, where he supplied bespoke hardware and systems to the broadcast industry and worked on setting up new studios for News UK.
Joel went on to become Installation Design Manager for audio visual consultant, Hawthorn. It was whilst there that he first worked with Theatreplan on the delivery of the theatre at Channing School and subsequently on the refurbishment of the Grand Hall at Battersea Arts Centre, where he focused on ensuring the technology fit into the Grade I listed building in a sensitive way.
Throughout his career Joel has enjoyed working in live TV and sees many similarities between this and live performance in theatre. He is keen to bring a broadcasting perspective to live venues, introducing exciting new media opportunities, at the same time as helping increase revenue streams to make venues sustainable. He also has a keen eye for helping venues prepare for future developments in technology.
Joel believes that having a positive, friendly attitude is key to developing good professional relationships with clients and partners. He is currently working on Theatreplan projects at the Dublin Institute of Science and Technology, Sydney Opera House, Trinity College, Oxford, and the Royal Opera House. In his spare time, Joel is also working on a personal project at his new home!
