Trinity College, Oxford
Theatreplan was appointed to work with ADAM Architecture and Bidwells on designing the first major construction project on Trinity College’s central Oxford site for over 50 years. The basement and ground floor levels of the new building encompass key academic spaces such as a new 148 seat multi-purpose auditorium, music rooms and seminar spaces, along with, community space, a large multipurpose function room and an extension to the existing library.
Theatreplan provided both space planning and technical infrastructure services for RIBA Stage 3. The project required a sensitive approach with an understanding of the significance of the surrounding heritage.
It is used by Music at Oxford for public performances and other events at Trinity, and was designed for public access. Trinity College president said, "the new auditorium has enabled us to provide a public platform for the work of our academics which, at the press of a button, can be transformed from a lecture theatre into a world call chamber music performance venue".
