Theatreplan wins project with Ronald Lu & Partners to design a new, multi venue arts building in Fanling, China
New Territories East Cultural Centre
Building on the growing cultural landscape of Hong Kong, the new Cultural Centre in Fanling is a multi-auditoria cultural centre. With five auditoria surrounding a central atrium and outdoor plaza, the emphasis is on providing a welcoming atmosphere. Fanling is situated close to the Chinese border with Hong Kong and the aspiration is to attract audiences from both the mainland as well as Hong Kong.
The emphasis is on community involvement and accessibility, as it will be located within a residential area and close to the main transport links. The venue will be an exciting cultural hub, situated at the heart of Fanling’s community life.
Theatreplan is responsible for theatre planning and technical design for the two large venues and the project is expected to complete in 2027.
Executive Director for Hong Kong, Michael Atkinson said, "This is an amazing opportunity for Theatreplan to work with local Hong Kong architects Ronald Lu and Partners to create a five auditoria cultural centre in the New Territories to serve the needs of the local community in Hong Kong and beyond. We are thrilled to be continuing our work in this exciting and dynamic region."
