Bridgewater Hall, Manchester
Theatreplan collaborated with RHWL and Arup Acoustics to create the Bridgewater Hall for Hallé Orchestra
Theatreplan contributed to the design and specification of the extensive stage facilities for this major concert hall. To give the best possible experience, innovative seating was carefully tiered to draw the audience as closely as possible into the performance.
A versatile rigging system was designed to meet the demands of the wide range of music performances and satisfied the hall’s requirement to accommodate spoken word and the sound installation provided reinforcement for non-orchestral performances. Lighting positions were designed to retract into the roof void and positions for television and a full remote control installation were included.
The technical installations also included a large concert platform consisting of eight separate elevators, which form orchestra risers, offering a choice of platform riser arrangements. The tensioned-wire grids in the ceiling above the stage accommodate the sound systems as well as providing safe access for over stage rigging and lighting.
Completed in 1996, The Bridgewater Hall was built to give Manchester the best space for music.
