Adelphi Theatre Salford University

The dynamic performance arts venues for the School of Arts and Media at Salford University are part of The New Adelphi building, housing a 350-seat theatre, a large ‘black box’ adaptable studio theatre, 2 large TV drama studios, rehearsal rooms, six industry standard recording studios, along with a number of flexible support spaces.

The venue is designed to be multi-functional, incorporating an adaptable rostra system that allows the venue to be converted into different formats including thrust, in the round, long and short traverse stage formats, and an option for standing audience. The seats on the balcony can be rotated so that they are in the perfect orientation for each format. The different staging and seating formats are supported by the flexible technical installations. The Tensioned Wire Grid above the auditorium provides a safe solution to working at height while giving maximum opportunities for front of house lighting, video, and sound equipment.  Over the stage are several motorised joists, along with hemp sets. These rigging facilities provide a variety of options for staging ambitious productions.  The production lighting installation included a combination of conventional, LED and moving lights.
