Celebrating 40 Years of Theatreplan: Innovating for the Future of Performance Venues
2025 marks four decades since Theatreplan began helping clients create amazing spaces for live performance. From our formation by one the world’s first theatre consultants, Richard Brett in 1985, to becoming a global leader in theatre consultancy, our journey has been one of vision, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to enhancing the performance spaces that inspire creativity and celebrate the magic of live performance.

Our Story: From Vision to Global Impact
Theatreplan was founded by passionate professionals who believed that the design and operation of performance venues could be done better, with a deeper understanding of both the technical and human aspects of the spaces.
Through the early years, we established a reputation as the trusted partner for clients and architects, helping create high-quality performance environments. Our team has now grown to include experts in lighting, sound, AV, stage engineering, and auditorium design; each project refining our craft and expanding our reach.

Shaping the Performing Arts Landscape
Today, our portfolio spans iconic venues worldwide, at every scale, from grand opera houses to intimate studio theatres. We’ve embraced new technologies, sustainable design, and evolving performance styles to create spaces that are more than buildings, they’re cultural hubs.
As performance evolves, so do we. From hybrid venues and livestream studios to immersive environments using AR/VR and motion capture, we’re designing for the next generation of creativity.

Looking Ahead
The future of performance is interactive, cross-disciplinary, and immersive. Artists are pushing boundaries, and audiences expect more. Theatreplan is ready; designing spaces that inspire, adapt, and elevate the experience of live and digital performance.
