Jan is an electrical engineer, with many years experience in the design and manufacture of dimming technology. In the early 1980’s Yan joined Penko Engineering as Technical Manager. In 1992 Jan became R&D Manager for Penko and formed IES(International Electronics Service) and in 1996 became Technical Director and owner of Penko Engineering and IES with installations throughout the world including the National Theatre, London, BBC, MTV studios, Aardman Animations Studios, Bristol, Het Muziektheater Amsterdam, Opera Madrid, Opera Helsinki, TVE, ZDF, NDR, RTB and many more. Key tasks: Project leader/developer of the patented IES sine wave dimming technology, R&D management, international sales and project support. Jan’s achievements during his career in the entertainment lighting industry include sine wave dimming, developing and selling the first new dimming technology to major international clients in the entertainment market for over 30 years.
Since graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Mike has been working in theatre sound for 35 years, splitting his time between providing consultancy for audio systems in live performance venues and designing sound for theatre shows. Two new theatres, opened in recent years, have benefitted from Mike’s design work: The Bridge Theatre for the London Theatre Company and The Susie Sainsbury Theatre at the Royal Academy of Music. Major refurbishment works have included The Barbican Theatre where a complete replacement of the infrastructures was recently completed. At the Royal National Theatre, Mike has overseen the replacement of infrastructures in all of the venues, along with providing project management on various other audio projects including the construction of new sound studios.
Rich is an experienced Sound Designer with multiple credits at the National Theatre, in the West End and on Broadway. He also has a history of venue management, project management and production sound engineering – having been variously, Studio Manager of the Burton Taylor Theatre (Oxford), Acting Deputy Chief Electrician at The Oxford Playhouse, Sound Deputy at the Royal Court Theatre (during the return to the refurbished theatres in Sloane Square), Sound Manager of the Cottesloe Theatre and Acting Head of Sound at the NT.
Notable projects include designing, installing and then managing the NT’s Sound Studios – for 10 years; replacing the entire sound and communications system in the Cottesloe; upgrading the NT’s audio playback systems (twice); designing and installing the sound and communications system for the NT’s temporary theatre The Shed. Sound Designs include Table, People (NT); Under The Blue Sky (Royal Court); Primo (Music Box Theater); Vernon God Little (Young Vic); Dinner (Wyndhams); What The Night Is For (Comedy); How To Be An Other Woman (Gate Theatre); Eigengrau (Bush Theatre); Of Mice And Men (West Yorkshire Playhouse); A Christmas Carol (Birmingham Rep). Associate Sound Designer for The Cat In The Hat (NT & Théâtre des Abbesses, Paris). Associate Soundscape Designer for London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.
Tim trained as a Lighting Designer at Royal Central School for Speech and Drama.
