Matt Kingslake
Consultant
Matt joined Theatreplan as a Performance Technology Consultant in 2016, having spent 12 years as the first Technical Manager of the Grove Theatre, Dunstable. The Grove was designed by Theatreplan and during the construction and commissioning phases, Matt took an active role in the building project and formed a close working relationship with our consultant team, gaining an insight into Theatreplan’s approach to theatre design.
Matt had originally planned to be a musician, graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Whilst there, Matt was offered a job as a casual technician in the college opera theatre. He went on to post graduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London and he was then recommended for a technical role with the touring company ‘Holiday on Ice’ where he garnered a huge amount of experience working on the show for eight years, in arenas across Europe, Scandinavia, South Africa, and Central and South America. Initially based within their electrical department, he rose to the role of Chief Electrician for its Blue Division.
After returning to the UK, Matt became Theatre Technician at Grimsby Auditorium and eventually became Technical Manager, where he experienced modifying the venue to make it suitable for West End shows, requiring ingenuity and flexibility to transform the space.
Matt is currently working on the major development project at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow where his positive interactions with the client, and genuine interest in the history of the building, is helping them preserve historic elements whilst still making the venue fit-for-purpose in the 21st century.
