John joined Theatreplan in 2026 to take a leading role in stage engineering design across projects of all scales and types within the performing arts sector. Specialising in stage engineering and automation systems, he works closely with architects, engineers and designers to develop, coordinate and commission complex technical systems for performance venues and studios.
Before joining Theatreplan, John was a theatre consultant at both Charcoalblue and Arup, working on projects ranging from the refurbishment of listed buildings in the UK to the design of new-build concert halls in Serbia and Korea. He has worked with clients including the BBC, the Royal College of Music and the University of Liverpool, as well as Belgrade Philharmonic Concert Hall, Ghent Opera, the Bourla Theatre and other cultural organisations internationally.

His breadth of experience enables him to engage confidently at every level, from strategic building design through to detailed technical systems, contributing to a holistic and client-focused approach to arts and cultural projects.
Alongside his consultancy work, John has held venue management roles including Technical Manager at the ADC Theatre in Cambridge, where he oversaw a major refurbishment of the auditorium and backstage systems.
